We decided to go to Arromanches for our D-Day landing beaches trip: we visited the museum to understand how the artificial port (Mulberry Harbour) was built to unload troops in June 1944, and the 360 movie theater. A few scenes were scary for young kids (below 8) but overall very captivating for them.
We had lunch at La Cremaillere at Courseille sur mer: fabulous seafood! We spent a few nights at Pierre et Vacances where I experimented a terrible mattress but kids enjoyed the crowded indoor pool and PlayStation game in the lobby.
On our way back to Paris, we stopped at Caen memorial museum. We spent 5 hours (at least) visiting the different sections that explain why and how the second world war started, dark years in France, genocide and deportation (a bit rough for kids), resistance, liberation and Cold War. We even visited the real bunker located under the museum: unfortunately, there is not much left to see in it …
Tip: Caen and Arromanches are just 2-3 hours drive from Paris.
